Henning Harnisch was born in Marburg on April 15, 1968 and also grew up there. He is a former German national basketball player. Harnisch's greatest success was winning the European Championship in 1993. Between 1990 and 1998, he won the German championship title nine times with the two clubs Bayer Leverkusen and Alba Berlin. Harnisch is now vice president of the Bundesliga basketball club Alba Berlin and is also responsible for promoting young talent.

During his playing days, Harnisch also completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller and wrote for various newspapers, such as the taz. He also hosted his own radio show, *Hennings Hausmusik.
